Linking words connect ideas and sentences together. Mastering these small but powerful words will make your Japanese sound much more natural and expressive.

ใ‹ใ‚‰ is more casual and direct. ใฎใง is softer and more polite โ€” prefer it in formal situations.

Both mean "only" but are used differently:

  • ใ ใ‘ is neutral and works with positive verbs: ใฟใฃใคใ ใ‘ ใ‚ใ‚Šใพใ™ โ†’ There are only three.
  • ใ—ใ‹ is negative and must use a negative verb: ใฟใฃใคใ—ใ‹ ใ‚ใ‚Šใพใ›ใ‚“ โ†’ There are only three (not more).
